D*Face
Artist D*Face
Biography AKA Dean Stockton grew up in London and had a childhood interest in graffiti.

He credits this to Henry Chalfant's coverage of New York subway graffiti in Spraycan Art and Subway Art, later as a teenager skateboarding and in particular Thrasher magazine's coverage of skateboard deck graphics led his interest in stickers and the DIY mentality associated with skate and punk fanzines. He attended an illustration and design course and worked as a freelance illustrator/designer whilst honing his street work.

Influences included Shepard Fairey's "Obey Giant" art campaign, Jim Philips, hip hop, punk music, and popular animated cartoons.

He held his first major London solo exhibition, Death & Glory, at the Stolenspace gallery, which sold out in October 2006 Since then, his exhibitions have included a solo show, Eyecons, at O Contemporary in Brighton in March 2007, again a sell out show. This featured new paintings, an installation and two prints — of Kurt "Kant Complain" and Cli-Che.

D*Face acted as curator for the Outside Institute, a contemporary art gallery in London that focused on street art. In 2005 the Outside Institute moved and re branded to become the Stolen Space Gallery.

Dan Baldwin
Artist Dan Baldwin
Biography DAN BALDWIN Born in Manchester.
His work deals with topics such as innocence, life-death, vanities, love, politics, symbolism, beauty, innocence and decay-.Everything really that comes under the topic LIFE.
The collecting of 'real' elements has always been an important part of the layering process, and in the past we have seen Baldwin use real Iraq and U.S. currency, vintage crucifixes and real bullets, stag horns, guns and vintage war memorabilia in his work. The paintings are never planned, but take on an organic spontaneous journey.
This way of working is based more on feeling and a train of thought process.
He was selected as one of five artists on BBC2's THE APPRENTICE, (series 1, episode 5).
His work has featured in spaces worldwide including the FORSTER gallery,(London) Basel Art Fair,(Switzerland),The ICA, the windows of London’s SELFRIDGES, Catto Contemporary, The Leonard St Gallery,Ink-D gallery, Lazinc Gallery, The New York Art Fair, London Art Fair,Gallerie Suty Paris,43 Molton St , Tom Tom, Zoo Art Fair (Royal Academy), Pulse (Miami),Scope (New York )- Gen Art Miami, Bankrobber and more.
Since 2001,he has donated to over twelve charity art events , supporting causes like the Red Cross, The Willow Foundation, Prostate Cancer, The Kennesaw Skate-park, Big Issue, Ollie Bennett foundation, Rocking-Horse appeal, Shelter and many others.
Although primarily a painter, Baldwin produces ceramics, and in the past has been commissioned to create bookcovers, & album covers for Overlook Publishers and Wall of Sound.
In Oct 08 Dan was asked to dress the windows of London’s coolest boutique, START, co owned by Brix Smith, ex guitar player and wife of Mark E Smith, the Manchester front man of legendary band The Fall. 'Sugar and spliced and all things diced' featured two paintings, a neon work, dismembered children’s limbs scattered across an autumnal setting.
He was voted critics choice on the Saatchi gallery/your gallery website in Sep 06 by ex-Art Review editor Rebecca Wilson -
Baldwin has never aimed to be from any 'urban' or 'street' background, having studied fine art/ illustration, although in 2008 was featured in Bonham’s first 'urban' art auction - gaining a record price for a sale - APOCALYPSE WOW - THE END OF EVERYTHING fitted perfectly within the urban art setting with two huge canvasses comprising of burned US and UK flags, skulls and flowers. The piece sold for more than £25,000.
In-between then and now there is work going to Lancaster, to the newly refurbished Storey Gallery, New York, Notting Hill and Philladelphia. .
In October 09 Baldwin’s work is featured in a new film FREESTYLE out in 50 cinemas across UK.
Artwork The words Urban and Montage are used loosely in all forms of art, Dan takes the image to a new level.

Danielle Oconnor Akiyama
Artist Danielle Oconnor Akiyama
Biography Danielle O’Connor Akiyama is a Toronto-based Canadian artist who has been painting for twenty-five years. Dannielle has worked with emotionally disturbed adolescents and oncology patients for many years. Since leaving her work as a therapist, Danielle has dedicated herself to the life of painting.

Danielles style is loose and impressionistic. Firmly rooted in the tradition of watercolour, her painting has evolved into a spirit of exploration. Her personal vocabulary which includes acrylics and oils as well, all evoke a sense of excitement of the journey. In order to understand the strength and simplicity of a single brushstroke, Danielle studied sumi-e, Japanese brush painting. Upon receiving her master’s seal, the head sensei named her "Chi-Sho", which means a source of joy, and embodies both the artistic process and the observer’s viewpoint. Each work bears her chop as well as her signature Danielle.

This mastery of blending east/west artistry is evident, and has led to her works being highly prized by many Asian collectors. Strength of skill and brush technique, (fude no chikara), blend with knowledge of colour and shadow, giving rise to beauties voice. Impressions and feelings are absorbed in mediation, synthesized, and brought into being by the mighty stroke of a charged brush. Full of free spirited joy; driven by courage and intention, guided by natures beauty, each stroke is a step on a journey; each painting a cycle in the evolution of style, leading to the frontier of possibility.

Whether it is a riotous party of flowers, a single magnificent blossom, or a tranquil terrain of a place remembered, there is always a hidden mystery in the under painting. This aspect of Danielles work is what lies at the heart of her creations. Her use of layering evokes a cadence, which echoes back to the moment of original inspiration. The spirit of the subject (kokoromochi) is preserved.

Artist Statement:
"...images burn continually and beg to tell their tale. Buds of new-life form themselves representing hope of the next. Bamboo thrusts emerge, lost and found, throughout the blossom; grounding it, strengthening it, lending yang to yin. Centres of blooms careen madly, raging red against diaphanous, translucent colour, whilst screaming to explore further still. Pure, undiluted brushstroke juxtaposes luminous washes of pigment. Startling shots of colour, three black shocks, and scattered splashes fragment the eye and make the whole image vibrate".
