Pamela Raith |
 |
| Biography |
 |
Pamela Raith’s rich, saturated photographs are full of intrigue and an underlying unease, reminiscent as they are of forest crime scenes and the lure of the fairytale. Her practice is a kind of visual mythology, and explores the strangeness that lurks beneath the surface of a familiar place and the memories it triggers.
In her Fantasia series Raith explores the creation of contemplative space: photographs as a site of reflection on the landscape and the undisclosed stories and ideas. Much of the work is set in woodlands and forests; a world of ominous enchantment as depicted in fairytale narratives, where the forest boundaries divide beauty from danger.
Raith received a first class honours degree from Northumbria University in 2009, and since graduating has exhibited in Newcastle, London and Kagawa, Japan. |

Paul Normansell |
 |
| Biography |
 |
Since receiving a 1st class degree in Fine Art from the Birmingham Institute of Art, Paul Normansell’s artwork has received international acclaim, exhibiting as far afield as Japan and Ohio. His unique style of painting influenced by the principles of pointillism involves using a brush and gloss paint on either board or aluminium to create meticulously executed works built up from hand painted circles. This technique, using the reflective qualities of gloss paint and aluminium creates paintings that move and change dependant upon the angle at which they are viewed. Paul’s collections have explored optical abstract patterns through to figurative, portraits and landscapes always utilising this distinctive style. His work is collected by high profile clients such as Pete Tong and Daniel Bedingfield.
Paul Normansell's latest commission was to create album artwork for rock band The Killers, 'Day and Age'. The Killers liked the artwork that Paul created so much they used it in the video for 'Human' and the iconography has also been used in the stage sets for their appearance on Jools Holland.
This recent link with music is nothing new for Paul, his work has been influenced by the relationship that art has with music from the outset;
”The foundation of my work originates from the relationship between Art and Music. I wanted to try and create a link between colour, shape and sound. My abstract paintings are based on colour studies exploring how colours can stimulate feelings, emotions within a person, and the different meanings each colour has, and its power to evoke a certain response from the viewer.”
From these abstract patterns the natural progression of Paul’s work has been towards figurative paintings, with pieces included in exhibitions surrounding London Fashion week including portraits of Kate Moss and Agyness Deyn. |
