Terri Hallman
Artist Terri Hallman
Biography Terri Hallman was born in Wisconsin in 1962. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in design from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design which she attended from 1986 until 1992. Hallman worked in the design field from 1987 until 1991, winning two International awards for Packaging Design What is so special about Hallman’s abstract works is that at first they seem primitive, her subjects are simple. Yet upon further observation there are layers of depth and emotion. Her colors are remarkable in that they are super-saturated, and there is a curious textural quality in her pieces that is uncommon. Most impressive about Hallman’s work, however, is the unusual and laborious technique she employs to achieve all these results. The artist begins by using dry pigments (in a powder form) and applies the pure and rich tones to paper. When she is satisfied with the layout of colors, she sprays a clear acrylic which sets the pigments in place. She then applies multiple layers of pigment, masking off different areas with tape, applying pressure with her hands; no brushes are used. Then, she scrapes away selected areas revealing previous layers and all tape is removed. At this juncture, Hallman assesses the work. In some instances she applies acrylic mediums, using the masking off and tearing away technique. She continues this procedure until the desired effect is achieved. The next step, if the artist chooses, is to apply thin color washes and/or combinations of oil mixed with dry pigment on the top surfaces. In all her pieces, Hallman uses a combination of the methods described above; applying colors in layers and scraping away until the piece "reaches maturity"
Terri Hallman’s art is unique. She thinks each of her creations is in a state of constant movement and transformation; always beginning by drawing abstract lines and building up the piece in layers, which develops into a more "realistic" creation. Hallman feels that the layers represent "the way things were", and the building up process to completion is "the way things are."

Terry Bradley
Artist Terry Bradley
Biography Belfast born Terry Bradley is one of Ireland’s most sought after artists. His work hangs in collections throughout Europe, North America and Australasia and he exhibits regularly in London and Marbella. This year he has solo shows planned for New York, Dublin and Belfast.

"Belfast born Terry Bradley has been tipped as THE Irish artist to collect in the new millennium.....his paintings hang in some of the country's most fashionable and exclusive homes, nightclubs and restaurants."
The Irish Tatler, December 2000

'"Bradley's work is extraordinary, nestled between Max Beckman and Germany's notorious Neue Wilden movement of the early 80's. Watch this space!"

Journalist and Art Collector Gabriela Berner

Much of Terry’s early work was inspired by the ten years he spent in Dublin. His sharp line drawings and broodingly atmospheric paintings show the strong, confident women from the fashion world in which he mixed and capture the bohemian mood of Europe’s famous bars, restaurants and clubs.
Terry’s current work takes inspiration from the former Sailortown district of Belfast. The city has a proud maritime tradition based on trade and shipbuilding. It was from the famous Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast that the ill-fated RMS Titanic was launched in 1912. Many of the men who built Belfast’s ships and worked on her docks lived down the narrow cobbled streets of Sailortown.

Terry has long been fascinated by this area and its tough, hard living men:

‘In the 19th and early 20th centuries, Sailortown was a cosmopolitan place, with nationalities and accents from all over the world. It’s men were hard working sailors who travelled huge distances and were proud to be from Belfast. I’m also proud to be from Belfast and in these paintings I want to capture the spirit of that time and honour the men who made Belfast one of the greatest shipbuilding ports in the world.’

And God fulfils Himself in many ways
- Alfred Lord Tennyson - Morte d’Arthur

This work addresses themes of historic symbolism and narrative in painting from a contemporary perspective. Influences such as the vanitas still life, medieval heraldy and Rococo styling find focus in a practice which uses devices of repetition and mirroring to create evocative tableaux exploring notions of luxury, mortality and nostalgia.

Thomas Helyar-Cardwell graduated from the MFA at Wimbledon College of Art in 2008. The artist participates in the `deutsche Postbank Group exhibtion on a yearly basis and has been shortlisted for the Jerwood Contemporary Painters Prize in 2009.
