7 Styles for 7 Brothers - Current Group Exhibition
Artist 7 Styles for 7 Brothers - Current Group Exhibition
Biography Internationally acclaimed artist and illustrator, Kid Acne is bringing a band of brothers to the steel city - unveiling a series of specially designed works to inaugurate new gallery
space in the heart of Sheffield's cultural quarter.

7 Styles for 7 Brothers is the first group show at The Archipelago Works in Sidney Street since the team moved in last year. The exhibition will showcase celebrated graffiti artists, designers and illustrators from Sheffield, London, Bristol, Brighton and Berlin.

Sheffield resident Kid Acne along with his DIY brethren - Cept, Infinite Livez, Pinky, Russell Maurice, Sweet Toof and Dscreet - have designed a collection of exclusive works
alongside a special collaborative fanzine, all of which have been hand screen-printed at The Archipelago Works by in-house printer Josh Bedford.

"We have been working hard over the last year to create a space to both produce and showcase talent. Working on '7 Styles for 7 Brothers' has allowed us to do just that and the pieces involved are very special" says Rupert Wood from The Archipelago Works.

Jim Connolly
Artist Jim Connolly
Biography Jim Connolly is an illustrator, designer and commercial artist from Sheffield, England. He is best known for creating comic book style designs for album/single covers, concert posters, magazine articles and silkscreen prints. His style features loud and brash bubblegum colours and comical characters usually drawn with a sharp vectorized look.

Sheffield Superheroes is a series of original screenprints by Jim Connolly produced in our new studio depicting the lives of ordinary and not so ordinary Sheffield folk in the style of comic books and graphic novels. Six are planned in the first series, and they are likely to be very collectible, with references to the best-loved features of contemporary life in the city, its iconic buildings, people and things. And foods... It's a fantasy world of flying saucers and flying sauces, spiced up with some helpful superpowers to make life in the Steel City rival Smallville, Gotham and Metropolis.

Martin Bedford
Artist Martin Bedford
Biography Originally from Kent, Martin Bedford came to Sheffield as a 20 year old and loved the city so much, he stayed. After completing a fine art degree at the now defunct Sheffield Polytechnic's Psalter Lane art campus, Martin became part of the co-operative that launched the infamous Leadmill nightclub in 1980, creating silkscreened posters and flyers that set a new benchmark for gig promotion in the city. Martin's artwork became as much a part of the city's growing music scene as the bands themselves, and having produced his trademark colourful graphics for the hundreds of bands that played at the venue, Martin screened his last poster for the Leadmill in 1992 as the demand for digitally produced work increased. Since then, he has continued to produce artwork for various bands, gigs and events.
Most recently, Martin has published a book of his work, 'Up Against the Wall - Leadmill posters 1980 - 1992', and was also commissioned to produce a limited edition silkscreened poster - which was printed here at The Archipelago Works - promoting Eve Wood's independent documentary on Sheffield's musical history 'The Beat is the Law'.

An up and coming star in the Sheffield art-scene, his commissioned mural work can be seen adorning numerous shop-shutters and buildings across the city, featuring characters from the comics and his slightly warped imagination.
